First day of Vertigo

Ok, what can I say? I think I’ll forever be in a state of shock. On Monday, March 28, I got to the arena around 1:30ish pm. I saw people waiting at the east gate when we drove in so we headed there. As soon as I got out of the van I heard my name being called from the GA line. I must take this time to say U2 fans are the friendliest group of people anyone will ever know. In the past few days I have met(old and new) so many friends. I saw Allegra and Trevor as soon as I got over there and my best friend, Tina, came by for an hour to keep me company. We saw Kings of Lion’s bus drive in and then saw them walk by us. My friend had to leave and in about 10 minutes my other friend Jahiara showed up. After four hours of waiting in the cold we decided to leave and see JT across the street at Tower Records. They were all hooked up with the flatbed truck in the parking lot.

The boys were playing on the truck while Jason was working the crowd. Then Bullet the Blue Sky began. Jason on top of the Cab of the truck, spot light in hand. It was droolable.

After a couple songs we headed to AM/PM for some food and coffee before the show. We then headed to the Arena to meet Janelle.

We got to wait at the top of the stares while everyone waited down below in line. So as cheap entertainment we held up our sign we made for U2 saying “U2 = Xanax, We = Wine” Some people yelled.

After a while Paul McGuinness walks passed us and says hi to the crowd. We get to say hello to him, shake his hand, and he then walked back inside. By then I realize we never got a picture. So I ask my friend to try to get him back outside. So she and I went up to the glass doors, she waved at him, when he saw her she pointed at the camera and then pointed at me. He smiled and walked back outside to take pictures with us.

The rest of the evening was like nothing I have ever experienced. Between the emotions from it being my first U2 concert, meeting the fifth member of the band, and having great seats I was so overwhelmed. Then the opening band started to play. We actually managed to make it through Kings of Lion without headaches. The wait after then was unbearable. While we were trying to pass the time Jason and Chas came over. We talked awhile and then they left to go find their seats.

Then the one word, said by a voice from above, was spoken. “Everyone.” The crowd started to go crazy and then City Of Blinding lights started.

It was such an emotional two hours. Miracle Drug fallowed by Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own had me in tears. Bono on the drums looked more like a boy that just got his first set of drums.

Singing to me...

My friend ran passed the yellow security puppets and took these.

At the end of 40, Bono sat down his spot light, and after the music had stopped and the band had left the stage, the audience continued to sing long after the house lights came on.

It was a beautiful thank you to the band and a perfect ending to an evening.
